WHY JOIN SCOUTING
& TROOP 263?

Scouting will allow for you to:

~Make some of the best friends you will ever make in your life! You'll work with boys and men older and younger, but you don't get kicked off the team or switch to another group (unless you want to) or disband at the end of a year.

~Go on camping trips to some of the best places, even places where the average public is not allowed, like Philmont Scout Ranch, Florida Sea Base, and Northern Tier.

~Learn some very valuable skills that will help you in your future life, and skills that are just fun.

~Learn to be in charge. Scouting is boy-led by Scouts who learned to be in charge.

~Have a credential to show the adult world that you can: be self-reliant, can plan, can deal with difficult circumstances, can be responsible, can show integrity, and can be in charge.

Scouting is about having fun outdoors and learning skills that you'd never learn in any other youth group. sure you learn to tie knots, but you also learn First Aid, Outdoor Skills, and Navigational Skills. Want to kayak or climb rocks or rappel or canoe or fly-fish? You get a chance to do all of these and more in Scouting. It's all about learning how to survive, not just in the woods, but in the real world as well.

Scouting is about learning the things you want to learn in a small group, or maybe just you, another Scout, and two adults. Learn at the pace you want.

Scouting can get opportunities not available to other boys because adults know that Scouts have committed themselves to developing their character.

Since 1910, these principles have been taught in an atmosphere of recreation and fun, which allow young people to develop self-confidence, leadership, and moral character. More and more men, trained as Scouts, are taking their places in today's world as responsible adult leaders. Men, who earned badges as Scouts, sit on the Supreme Court. Others hold important offices in our government, businesses, and industry. Most of the members of Congress were Scouts, as well as most of the astronauts who have walked on the moon.

If you want to join Scouting and Troop 263, we invite you to attend one of our troop meetings. We meet every Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the
Lincoln Center in Highland, IN.
